East Coast Otter Trawl Fishery Export Approval

FAQ

The conditions provided to Fisheries Queensland by the Australian Government are still in draft and subject to change. We will collate and consider all feedback provided and, if required, use this to advocate to the Australian Government for changes before the conditions are finalised by the Australian Government or their delegate (before the current WTO expires on 17 December 2024).

Conditions 1 to 4 are considered ‘standard’ conditions under the WTO, which relate specifically to general fisheries management and are consistent across all WTOs. The focus of this consultation relates to all other conditions (5 to 11) for which there is scope for negotiation and potential changes.

The current WTO conditions expire on 17 December 2024. Feedback has been requested by 5pm, 27 November 2024 to provide as much time as possible for fishers and industry to discuss the the draft conditions with their peers and provide their feedback. The timeline also allows adequate time for responses to be collated and considered prior to Fisheries Queensland entering further negotiations with the Australian Government and advocating for any changes.
