Australia’s national biosecurity system overview
A new document outlining Australia’s national biosecurity system is now available, offering a detailed summary of the governance, roles, and responsibilities that support biosecurity efforts nationwide.
The document explains how the Australian Government, state and territory governments, industry, and the community work together to protect the environment, economy, and human health from biosecurity risks. It highlights the framework established by the Biosecurity Act 2015 (Cth) and the Intergovernmental Agreement on Biosecurity (IGAB), which promotes collaboration and coordination across jurisdictions.
Key points include the role of the National Biosecurity Committee (NBC) in governance, emergency response deeds for managing pests and diseases and the National Biosecurity Strategy and Queensland Biosecurity Strategy 2024–29.
This resource underscores the importance of partnerships in tackling biosecurity challenges and offers valuable insights for stakeholders.
