Queensland sheep and goat eID

Project overview

Queensland is moving to mandatory electronic identification (eID) for individual sheep and goats, as part of a national initiative.

Find out how to meet your obligations and why eID is being introduced.

The Department of Primary Industries (DPI) has held a number of workshops for the sheep and goat industry. Watch our recent information webinar here with Integrity Systems Company (ISC).

A second round of financial assistance to help ease the financial burden and ensure the sheep and goat industry can adopt eID was announced in November2025.

In2026:

  • point-of-sale discounts on eID devices will be available for Queensland sheep and goat producers
  • Queensland processors, saleyards and agriculture show sub chambers may also be eligible for a capped rebate of up to50% of the cost of eligible items.

More information about the details of the second round of financial assistance will be available soon.
