  • Queensland State budget outcomes and Biosecurity Queensland

    Initiatives announced in the budget include:

    • $5.48 million over three years for collective action to manage Varroa destructor from 2024–25. This funding includes the establishment of the Bee Biosecurity Roundtable, and a Bee Innovation Fund aimed at supporting distributed leadership and community action as well as innovative strategies and stakeholder engagement, including public information tools and advanced surveillance techniques.
    • $6.5 million over four years to strengthen Biosecurity Queensland’s enforcement and evidence related initiatives to improve biosecurity leadership.
    • $1.931 million to support the RSPCA’s ongoing activities as inspectors under the Animal Care and Protection Act 2001 in parts of the state. This funding will contribute to an upgrade of the RSPCA’s case management system and body worn camera equipment.

    Other funding announced in the last 12 months includes $12 million over four years from the $30 million Backing Bush Communities Fund to support Invasive Species Management through building rural and regional capacity and resilience to manage biosecurity threats and $7.3 million over five years to provide more coordinated, consistent and effective government action in response to dog attacks.
