Queensland is reviewing its food legislation and we want your input.
The Food Production (Safety) Act 2000 has kept Queensland's primary produce safe for 25 years.
It's time for a refresh to the legislation due to significant changes in the food regulation system and developments in the food industry resulting in changes to the way food is produced, processed, distributed and sold to consumers.
The review aims to:
- identify if the current approach to food safety regulation under the Act needs modernisation to ensure it remains effective and responsive to new and emerging risks
- strengthen food safety across the supply chain
- reduce the burden on businesses through risk-based, proportionate regulatory approaches.
- align Queensland's primary production regulations with national food safety frameworks
- support the state's goal of boosting primary production output to $30 billion by 2030.

Consultation is now closed. The Department of Primary Industries is now carefully considering all of the feeback and submissions recieved.
